How do I set up a parked, pointed, or alias domain in cPanel?

How do I set up a parked, pointed, or alias domain in cPanel?

A parked domain, pointed domain, or alias domain is an extra domain name that loads the same website as your main domain.

For example, you may want both of these to show the same website:

yourdomain.co.nz

and:

yourdomain.com

In modern cPanel, this is usually managed from Domains.

Alias domain vs addon domain

Use an alias domain when the extra domain should show the same website as your main domain.

Use an addon domain when the extra domain should have its own separate website.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

Log in to cPanel through your WebhostingNZ client area.

If you are unsure how to access cPanel, please follow this guide first:

How to access cPanel from the Client Area

Step 2: Open Domains

In cPanel, open Domains.

Older cPanel layouts may show a separate Aliases or Parked Domains icon.

Step 3: Create the alias domain

Click Create A New Domain.

Enter the domain name you want to add.

For example:

yourdomain.com

To make it act as an alias, make sure it uses the same document root as your main website.

For example:

public_html

This means the alias domain will load the same website as your main domain.

Step 4: Save the change

Click Submit or Create.

Step 5: Point the domain to WebhostingNZ

The alias domain must point to the correct WebhostingNZ server before it will work.

If the domain is registered elsewhere, update the nameservers or DNS records with your domain registrar.
